Happy Music

I know a lot of my happy songs make me happy because of a personal connection. Whether it’s songs I danced to as a student, had on in the car when I was a kid, or songs that I associate with a particular person, there’s a reason. Those songs throw me right back to the moment I was most happy, listening to that same song many moons ago.

Some songs, though, are just innately, intrinsically happy. Anyone listening to them would have to smile (surely?!).

So I thought I’d better start compiling a list of all those mood-lifting songs that get you singing along, jumping around, tapping your toes, swaying around and just plain HAPPY!

The Vandellas – Dancing in the Street

How could you not start tapping your feet when this comes on?

Bob Geldof – The Happy Club

The name says it all…

The Lovin’ Spoonful – Do You Believe in Magic?

Even the lyrics say that “it makes you feel happy like an old-time movie”

Survivor – Eye of the Tiger

So uplifting it’s unreal.

Kool & The Gang – Celebration

Personally, this takes me back to university aerobics classes with Dave… but I think it’s a happy song anyway!

The Monkees – I’m a Believer

This’ll get your head nodding along, body swaying, feet tapping…

Robbie Williams – Let Me Entertain You

Sing along, and join in with the dance moves. Fab.

Spandau Ballet – Gold

It’s all about the loud “Gold!”

Tim Minchin – Prejudice/If I didn’t have you/Confessions

Giggles. Chuckles. Rolling on the floor hysterics.

Glenn Miller – In The Mood

Get jiving!

Chumbawumba – Tubthumping

Join in with the “get down” (touch the floor) and “get up again” (jump!) and relive your primary school disco days…

B*witched – C’est la vie

Yes, as a ten year old I was singing “I’ll show you mine if you show me yours”, but how can you NOT love a song that contains the lyrics “Some people say I look like me dad. What?! Are you serious?” and “I’m the wolf today. I’ll huff I’ll puff, I’ll huff and puff and blow you away”?

Double denim!
